The majority view again is that this is a future event. I honestly don't really know when people say this will happen because there are a lot of views but let's just say they believe it is at the end of the physical world. But how true is that? Can it be proved by scripture that this is true? Well, no it cannot. In fact, it can proven that this is a past event. Jesus speaks about the wedding feast in a parable. Here are His words, with some commentary added in parenthesis...
"And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king (God) who arranged a marriage for his son (Jesus), and sent out his servants (apostles/disciples) to call those who were invited to the wedding (the generation of Jews that were called to repent in that day); and they were not willing to come....Matt 22:1-3
This is a perfect picture of what happened. God sent His servants out to the people of Israel to call them to repentance. He sent Elijah (John the baptist) crying out in the wilderness BEFORE that great and terrible day. But they ignored it and refused it.
"Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his ARMIES, destroyed those murderers, AND BURNED UP THEIR CITY. Then he said to his servants, ‘THE WEDDING IS READY" Matt 22:4-8
Did you catch everything in that last part? Pretty powerful stuff. Jesus says that these people killed the rest of his servants (Remember when Jesus cried out, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who killed the scribes and prophets I sent to you")
Then what happens? God (the King) was furious. He sent out His "armies". Could that be the Roman Armies that were foretold all throughout the OT prophets and the 4th exceedingly great beast of Daniel? You bet it is. But this next part is key...
He says once the armies would come they would "BURN UP THEIR CITY". Who's city? "The city where the Lord was slain"- Jerusalem. No question. But look what the next line is....""THE WEDDING IS READY!"
Ok, so we know the destruction of the Jews and Jerusalem took place exactly as predicted and it fulfills literally EVERYTHING in this parable. That all happened in AD70. The wedding feast was to happen RIGHT after the city was burned, not thousands of years later.
You see, the great tribulation on Daniels people, the resurrection, the judgement, the saints inheriting the Kingdom, the wedding feast, etc were all going to happen at the same point in history. They are all linked together. They all happened just as the Lord told us they would.
They all would take place when the Lord would return to put an end to the Old Covenant Age and to fully consummate the New Covenant Kingdom.
