Daniel chapter 12 is super easy to understand. So many people are afraid of apocalyptic books like Daniel because they tend to be a bit confusing but Daniel chapter 12 is very clear. Please keep in mind the destruction of Jerusalem which occurred over a period of 42 months and ended in the ultimate shattering of the Jews in 70ad.
In Daniel chapter 12, around 600 BC, Daniel sees some events in his future. They are called "wonders". In the first 3 sentences you'll see them. They are the great tribulation, the resurrection, and the judgement. Now remember, most people think these events are still future to us today.
A few sentences later we see one angel ask the other about these wonders. He asks when they would occur. His answer couldn't be more clear. He says ... "It will be for a time, times, and half a time, and when the power of the holy people is completely shattered, ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE FULFILLED"
Now, all scholars agree that the time times and half a time 100% means a period of 42 months. It's basically a year+ 2 years+ half a year. Equaling 42 months. There is no disagreement between anyone on that point.
The angel says that "when the power of the holy people is completely shattered ALL would be fulfilled" Who were the holy people back when Daniel wrote? Clearly, the Jews! No other option. So in a nutshell he is saying that all of those wonders mentioned above would be fulfilled after a period of 42 months which would result in the shattering of the Jewish people. (Remember to keep the 42 month destruction of Jerusalem in mind ok?)
Well what did Jesus say around 33ad during His ministry when He was speaking directly to living people who were listening intently to Him? He said... "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some STANDING HERE who shall not die till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” Matthew 16:27-28
Do you see the perfect harmony? Jesus was speaking of the judgement in this passage and He was speaking of His coming to usher in the Kingdom. He assured those men standing there that it would happen before some of them died! This was said around 33ad, and the return of the Lord in judgement on Jerusalem occurred just 37 or so years later! That was when the "power of the holy people was completely shattered over a period of 42 months".
So guess what that means according to Daniel chapter 12? All of those wonders (the great trib, the resurrection, the judgement) were all finished when this destruction was complete.
