In the Old Heaven & Earth all men dwelt in the dust because that was what they were....
"The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly" 1 Cor. 15:47-48
Paul contrasts Genesis language of "dust formed" to the spiritual nature of man in Christ. Is it not very clear that Paul is bringing us all the way back to Genesis here with his "dust" talk?
In the Old Heaven & Earth, "dust" was their natural mortal and corruptible state.
At death, they would return to THE DUST and wait for the resurrection. Daniel said this about the end of the age...
"And many of those who sleep in the DUST of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt." Daniel 12:2
In Psalm 119:25 we read...
"My soul clings to the DUST: Revive me according to Your word."
Preterists affirm a SPIRITUAL resurrection from the dust out of Hades according to Daniel 12:2. We are all in agreement that this resurrection FROM THE DUST was NOT physical in nature.
It was spiritual.
But most Preterists are inconsistent in applying this same SPIRITUAL concept of the dust back in Genesis.
If the dust isn't literal dust at the end of the Old Heaven & Earth in the resurrection, then why is it literal at the start of that same Old Heaven & Earth in Genesis?
Were the dead ones in Hades raised from literal physical dust of the earth? Dust is a physical tangible thing. Were these spirits raised from earthly dust?
Then why is Adam's formation from "dust" physical in nature? Why is he literally formed from a physical tangible thing?
Consistency is key. Dust matches at both ends of the bible.
